ABOUT THE EVENT
The night kicks off with a slideshow by adventure photographer John Price, who in the past three years has been actively climbing and photographing rock, ice, and alpine routes throughout the world alongside some of the biggest names in the sport. Following his presentation, Nancy Hansen will share stories and images from her recent adventures, including her attempts of two unclimbed 7,000-metre peaks in Pakistan’s Karakoram Range, her ascent of Nepal’s Cholatse, ski descents in Switzerland, and the five weeks she spent with partner Ralf Dujmovits in a windowless laboratory in Cologne, Germany, as part of a simulated high altitude/heart recovery medical study.

An Alpine Club of Canada Ambassador, Nancy Hansen has been climbing mountains around the world for 25 years. After climbing the 11,000-foot peaks in the Canadian Rockies and 46 of the routes in the iconic guidebook Fifty Classic Climbs of North America, she followed her heart to Germany and broadened her climbing horizons. In 2016, she and her partner, Ralf Dujmovits, attempted two unclimbed 7,000-metre peaks in Pakistan’s Karakoram Range. In 2017 they climbed Cholatse (6,440 m) in Nepal. In 2018, she and Ralf spent five weeks in a windowless laboratory in Cologne, Germany, taking part in a simulated high altitude/heart recovery medical study. In the last three years, she has also skied several peaks in Switzerland and climbed in Chamonix, Malta, Turkey, Tunisia, Leonidio, Sicily, Arco, Switzerland, Thailand and Laos. She will be sharing stories and images from many of these adventures.
John Price is a photographer and climber who has spent the last six years travelling all over the world, while basing himself out of Canada. Over the last three years, Price has been actively climbing and photographing rock, ice, and alpine ascents throughout North America, the deserts of Nevada, the Ruth Gorge in Alaska, the remote corners of the Himalaya, rural Japan, Ice climbs in China and extensively throughout the Canadian Rockies. He is currently based in Canmore, Alberta, where he works as a freelance adventure, lifestyle, and landscape photographer. He also teaches private workshops, creates editorial pieces, and shoots for commercial projects for a range of clients. John Price was the winner of the 2017 Banff Mountain Festival Signature Shot Competition with his image of Larry Shiu on Cascade Mountain in Banff National Park.
