CELEBRATING A LEGACY:
CANADIAN ROCKIES ANNUAL
By Meghan J. Ward and Dee Larosa
For five years we’ve been telling your stories in the award-winning Canadian Rockies Annual. By some standards, the magazine’s journey has come to an end. But the publication’s legacy will live on in the printed copies that hold a proud place in homes throughout the world.
This time last year we were in the final stages of producing our fifth volume of the Canadian Rockies Annual. Little did we know then, it would be our final one.
The independent publishing business is hard, let alone during a pandemic. And though all the hard work laying the foundations for the publication had paid off early in 2020, the vitality of the magazine was severely impacted by what transpired this past year with COVID-19. It’s with a mix of sadness and celebration that we let our dear and rad readers know we have made the decision to no longer publish the Canadian Rockies Annual.
Standing here at the end of this magazine’s journey, we are so honoured to have told the stories our community shared with us: those of resilience, heartache, hope and adventure. We’re humbled to think these stories have now been captured in ink and will sit on coffee tables and bookshelves for years to come. We’re incredibly proud of the five volumes we created and the several awards we received alongside our hard-working crew of contributors and with support from our ever-encouraging partners and advertisers. We’re also proud to have supported the ventures of over 100 creatives and paid out $50,000 to publish their work in the Canadian Rockies Annual.
This isn’t “happy trails” though. We remain deeply committed to being your one-stop basecamp for mountain culture through web-based articles and resources, outdoorsy swag, and community events. We’ve got more news to share with you soon, too, but thought one big announcement was enough for today. 😉
Please join us in celebrating the Canadian Rockies Annual in true mountain style: pour yourself a coffee (or glass of bubbles) and cuddle up with your favourite issue as we end this amazing chapter together. Post a pic for us so we can see it and be sure to tag us.
Thanks for your support and subscriptions over the years and here’s to mountain culture elevated.
