Each year on December 11th, mountain enthusiasts gather at artsPlace for Life@Altitude. Hosted in celebration of International Mountain Day, the evening program features presentations by prominent locals, as well as short films from Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival. Here’s a little recap of what you missed!

In the lobby prior to the event, as well as at intermission, attendees could enjoy interactive displays with the Canmore Museum and Geoscience Centre, Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies and Rocky Mountain Adaptive, a non-profit charity whose aim is to provide individuals with any disability the chance to access all sport and recreational activities in the Canadian Rockies.

Our speakers for Life@Altitude 3.0 included Michelle Kadatz, a Calgary-based climber who shared about her recent climbing trip to Baffin Island, and Karsten Heuer (Bison Reintroduction Project Manager for Banff National Park), who shared about the process of bringing bison back to the wilderness of the country’s flagship national park. Emceed by Banff Centre’s Patsy Murphy, the evening featured Kadatz and Heuer, as well as a series of short films from Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival: Kindred, My Mom Vala, The Frenchy and The Brotherhood of Skiing.

Thanks again to all of those who attended! This year, all tickets sales went to the Banff Canmore Community Foundation.

Life@Altitude is held in partnership with Crowfoot Media and Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival and artsPlace. The event is held in conjunction with International Mountain Day and the Canadian Mountain Network.
