Brought to you by Tourism Jasper

Stunning mornings filled with singing birds and dew-filled promise. Long days spent bagging peaks. Warm, starlit patios filled with friends laughing over pints. Summer is the time for both action and relaxation, for welcoming new experiences and rediscovering old favourites. And there’s nowhere better to live summer to its fullest than in Jasper National Park. Not sure where to start? Here are a few ideas to get you inspired.

1/ Raft the Rivers

Water adventures are a great way to see the national park from a whole new perspective, so it’s no wonder that whitewater rafting has become one of Jasper’s most popular summer activities. From mild adventure to extreme excursion, a trip down the river is a memory you won’t soon forget.

2/ Spot Some Wildlife

Take a walk on the wild side with one of Jasper’s wildlife discovery tours. Spring is a great time for spotting many of Jasper’s furry friends, since the bears are emerging from hibernation and many others (from elk to sheep to deer) are having cute fuzzy babies that are sure to elicit a squealed “awwww!” from all parties involved.

3/ Hit the Highway on a Harley

Strap on some leathers and channel your inner outlaw with Jasper Motorcycle Tours. Recognized as a “Signature Experience” by Destination Canada, this is the only tour of its kind available within any of the Rocky Mountain national parks. Do it for yourself, do it with friends, do it for the photographic evidence.

4/ Hike the Trails

As the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies, Jasper National Park boasts an equally massive network of trails that includes everything from easy, paved loops around town to multi-day single-track through rugged backcountry. Get panoramic views from the peak of Sulfur Skyline with Canadian Skyline Adventures (bring your bathing suit to soak in the Miette Hot Springs afterwards), or explore Maligne Canyon or Pyramid Lake with Walks & Talks.

5/ Take a Helicopter Over the Park

Bucket list item alert! See Jasper from the perspective of the many birds who call this place home. From 4000 metres above, guests of Rockies Heli Canada can see the aqua green lakes, massive glaciers and spectacular waterfalls that make Jasper so spectacular. The tours include a homemade lunch in quite possibly the most scenic location of your life.

6/ Golf a Legendary Course

Even if you don’t consider yourself a golfer (or have never swung a club in your life), having a round at the award-winning public golf course at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is a must. The 18-hole layout (designed by the legendary Stanley Thompson) is regularly rated as one of the best in Canada, thanks in part to the fact that most of the holes align perfectly with distant mountain vistas, and secluded fairways that follow the environment’s natural contours through thick forest.

7/ Ride the SkyTram

See Jasper from above when you stand on the viewing deck at the Jasper SkyTram’s Upper Station, located at the lofty elevation of 2,263 metres on Whistlers Mountain. From here it’s possible to see six mountain ranges stretching up to 80 kilometres away (on a clear day even the white pyramid of Mount Robson in British Columbia is visible). Interpretive exhibits explain the high alpine environment, and a hiking trail leads you to the summit of the mountain. Don’t miss the chance to ride Canada’s longest and highest guided aerial tramway.

8/ Cruise to Spirit Island

No visit to Jasper is complete without a visit to see the world famous Spirit Island. And there’s no better way to visit it than via the Maligne Lake Cruise, which not only provides transport to the beautiful, iconic landmark (only accessible by water!), but also includes an informative and educational guide. This interpretive tour was declared the “Best Boat Cruise in Canada” by 8 million Reader’s Digest subscribers.

9/ Enjoy a Patio Meal

No summer is complete without enjoying some quality grub in the sunshine. Refuel for your adventures or just relax with pals on the scenic patios at Jasper Brewing Co., Tekarra Restaurant or Coco’s Cafe. Or enjoy some delicious indoor eats at Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria, The Jasper Legion’s Standeasy, or Evil Dave’s Grill. Get a sample from multiple restaurants with Jasper Food Tours.

Jasper is your base of adventure: an awe-inspiring and authentic Rocky Mountain destination – the entry point to Canada’s most epic experiences. It is from here that the greatest personal expeditions begin; where explorers and wanderers from around the world converge to enjoy the activities, accommodations, restaurants, and businesses of the town of Jasper, before taking on the real Canadian Rockies of Jasper National Park.
