LAKE LOUISE: 3 WAYS TO ENJOY
A SKI RESORT IN SUMMER + FALL

Lake Louise Ski Resort

Ski resorts are more than just sliding on snow these days, and Lake Louise has a great set-up for sightseeing, grizzly bear viewing and accessible outdoors activities. Here are three insider tips on some hidden gem activities you’ll find in Lake Louise during the off-season.

SMOKED MEATS & GREAT PATIOS

New this season is the Bear’s Den Smokehouse & Patio in the base area. You don’t even need to purchase a gondola ticket to sit here, soak up some sun and enjoy the views. The smokehouse serves up an excellent pulled pork and BBQ brisket, plus there’s a variety of lawn games to play nearby. Also, every Thursday is Local’s Day at the Bear’s Den! Bow Valley residents get 25% off food and drink when they bring ID.

Another noteworthy patio is Whitehorn Bistro. This one is only accessible via the Summer Gondola, and it’s well worth the trip. Sitting pretty at 7,000 ft, you can stop in for a gourmet lunch or cold beverage while gazing at the ever impressive sight of the Victoria Glacier above the blue hue of Lake Louise.

HIGH-ALPINE HIKES WITH HALF THE WORK

From the top of the lift you can access some pretty neat high-alpine hikes. The best thing is that half the work of getting to these high viewpoints is already done! You gain about 1,300 feet in elevation simply riding the Summer Gondola. Win!

There are three designated hiking trails. These range from a quick 1.7 km loop on the Kicking Horse route to a 3.4 km round-trip to Paradise Lookout for some of the best 360 panoramic vistas in Banff National Park.

SUMMER SOLITUDE

It’s no secret that summer in Banff and Lake Louise can be hectic. Finding both an easily accessible, and peaceful spot can be a little hard to come by. But, when you’re sitting on the chair lift, soaring over the serene, grassy ski slopes, the only audible sounds are the natural running brooks, chirping birds and rustling leaves. Once at the top, there’s plenty of open space to find your summer solitude.

The Lake Louise Summer Gondola is open until October 10.

The tentative opening date for the 2016-17 season at Lake Louise Ski Resort is November 10. Get your snow stoke ready! #JustLakeIt
