3 Great Reasons to Head to Jasper in January

By Tourism Jasper

If you’re looking for good reasons to stave off the urge to hibernate this January (and maybe even cross off a few of those New Year’s resolutions!), Jasper has three: Adventures, Appetites and Arts. These are the three themed weekends of Jasper in January, running from January 14-31, 2016. Packed with deals, events and activities, they’ll turn even the biggest winter humbug into a cold-weather champion.

What is there to look forward to in January? When the excitement of the holiday season is behind you and you’ve rung in the New Year, the months can appear to stretch before you like frozen and desolate tundra. But Canada isn’t Canada without winter, and life in the mountains is all about embracing the elements. Jasper in January gives you the opportunity to do just that.

From novice to extreme, it doesn’t matter what your adventure level is. There’s something for every explorer during Jasper in January’s Adventures weekend. Venture Beyond with 25% off your adult day lift pass from January 16-31 at Marmot Basin – home of the highest base elevation in the Canadian Rockies. Your whole family will be able to experience a full day of winter activities during Winterstruck on Saturday, January 16. From dog sledding to fat biking, snowshoeing and so much more, this signature event has something for everyone!

This weekend is the perfect time to explore Jasper’s culinary scene and savour local flavours, from Food-A-Palooza, featuring small plate and beverage pairings at participating restaurants, to the Jasper Dine Around, an incredible six-course Spanish tapas dinner. Many of Jasper’s local restaurants will be pulling out the stops. And if you’re looking for an adult beverage or two to help keep you warm, be sure to check out Mixology 101, a hands-on cocktail class happening at Evil Dave’s Grill on Saturday, January 23.

Express yourself and enjoy a weekend full of winter arts, music, and laughter. Take in a unique evening of local arts and ice carving at Arts On Ice on Friday, January 29, or let laughter keep you warm with Just For Laughs’ Jeremy Hotz, who will be performing in Jasper for the first time ever on his new cross-Canada tour. Maybe you need to relax and unwind after a chaotic holiday season? Rejuvenate your body and your spirit at the Lolë Wellness Weekend with other kindred spirits. And don’t forget about Jasper’s infamous ATCO Street Party on January 30!

It is from here that the greatest personal expeditions begin; where explorers and wanderers from around the world converge to enjoy the activities, accommodations, restaurants, and businesses of the town of Jasper, before taking on the real Canadian Rockies of Jasper National Park.
